Goals-To practice close reading strategies and gain understanding of the teen brain. To familiarize ourselves with the characters in the novel and think about the essential questions in the novel.

Essential Questions for the novel

• How do prejudice and stereotypes influence people’s behavior globally and in the novel?  

• Why do people hide their true selves?
• Compare and contrast the Socs and the Greasers
• How does Ponyboy’s view of the Soc's evolve from the beginning of the novel to the end?
